Ha Giang – a mountainous province, North Pole border of the country – plays an important socio – economic and national defense – security role. The province owns over 275 km border with China. Ha Giang’s North Pole is also the North Pole of Vietnam at North latitude of 23o13’. At present, Ha Giang includes 10 districts and 1 city, with a community of mighty mountains, difficult terrain, average height of 800 – 1200m over sea level, where highest location is Tay Con Linh mountain top of 2,419m. Special feature of Ha Giang terrain is big density of high mountains, which is divided into 3 different regions: Northern rocky mountain high land includes Dong Van, Meo Vac, Yen Minh, Quan Ba districts; West soil mountain high land regions are Xin Man, Hoang Su Phi districts; lower regions are Vi Xuyen, Bac Quang, Bac Me, Quang Binh districts and Ha Giang city. Annual average temperature is about 20 0C – 22 0C. Most of Ha Giang’s rivers and streams are branches of Red river with different depth, high slope, many waterfalls and rapids which are not convenient for water traffic; however, they are main water sources for life, drainage, maintaining eco – environment of the province. 3/4 terrain area of Ha Giang is mountains and hills, typical Karst terrain with full of rugby rock mountains in Northern districts.
